I’m usually one for insane conspiracy theories, but I don’t even need to pull out my tinfoil hat to see this controversy with Sydney Sweeney is entirely fabricated.

No one was upset about her thirst trap ad except the chronically online until Opinion Blog Fox claimed liberals were mad to distract everyone from the fact Trump will not release the “fake” Epstein files (that Bill Clinton forged but also put himself on 20+ times).

However, that’s a topic for another day. Today’s topic is: should Christians support porn? Because that’s basically what Sweeney’s ad is.

I think Sweeney is pretty and a decent actress, and if you are short like me, American Eagle jeans actually are great. Furthermore, I really enjoyed Immaculate. That said, do I believe anyone at American Eagle was smart enough to think beyond Sydney Sweeney = Great Knockers = Great Genes/Jeans. No. Frankly, when I saw the ad my mind went to the two things she’s known for and not anything racial. However, I will concede the ad was in poor taste give the political climate.

That said, this is about the clownery of Christians supporting porn just to stick it to the left. Seeing Catholics like JD Vance and other “conservative family values bring back morals to America oh not the drag queens and gays coming for the kids!” going to bat over soft-core porn was not on my 2025 What Thing Not In The Bible Will Christians Support Because Trump Says To Do So bingo card though it should’ve been, because Christians love sexualizing women almost as much as they love racism and diddling children.

Conservatives (and Christians) do not care about women unless supporting them can be weaponized against illegal immigrants (see Laken Riley). They’re also cool voting for and supporting “alleged” rapists/pedophiles and their defenders (see Pete Hegseth, Robert F. Kennedy, Linda McMahon).

This is not to say that liberals aren’t also trash because they are. However, the church does not have an issue pointing out the ways in which liberals do not align with scripture. They have been much slower to do so with conservatives though much of their ideology also does not align with scripture.

Conservativism is not Christianity. When Christians allow a political party to shape their worldview as oppose to the Bible, they end up supporting pornography just to stick it to the other side. Even though it goes without saying that there is nothing about Sweeney’s ad that should be supported by any Christian.

Anyway, let’s start off with a classic. Matthew 5:27-29 “[y]ou have heard that it was said, Do not commit adultery. ²⁸ But I tell you, everyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. ²⁹ If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of the parts of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.”

And, “[f]lee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (Corinthians Something). I’m hard pressed to see anyway Sweeney is honoring God with her body, but I digress. Christians only oppose porn when it scores them conservative brownie points (see Pastor Brian Sauve crying online about bikini pictures but having nothing to say now).

I really wonder if JD Vance after reading his Bible (which he does not do), goes to twitter and says “I bet Jesus would TOTALLY support Sydney Sweeney’s great boobs genes – I mean jeans! Yeah! This is really going to represent my beliefs and family values and faith-based Christian morals!” Obviously conservatives don’t care about morality unless they can use it to dupe Christians into voting for them, but it goes without saying that any genuine Christian should not support sexual immorality, and Sweeney’s ad is soft-core porn, so why are Christians supporting it with such vehemence? Why is owning the libs more important than supporting actual Biblical values?

This is yet another reason why you should read your Bible daily and allow that to form your worldview. Furthermore, allow it to transform your life and heart, so that you live a life of integrity where your actions and desires, both publicly and privately, align with your values, morals, and beliefs. Speaking the truth is not popular. When you begin living as the Bible commands and being angry at the things that anger God as opposed to the things that anger Republicans, you will not hold popular views that some 70+ million people vote for. Truly following Christ feels weird, because you should feel like nobody else agrees with you and you are speaking to the void.

It’s unfortunate many Christians are following a party over Jesus Christ. They spend more time defending Trump than preaching the good news. They are more worried about what “the world” is doing, and consequently spend little time reflecting on themselves, their own sins, and the ways in which their private lives do not align with their public beliefs. They read Fox every day, but rarely pick up their Bibles.

Consequently, this is how you end up with Christian influencers who not long ago were screaming about the evils of pizzagate, child trafficking rings, and Qanon but are now silent about Trump’s obvious connection to Jeffrey Epstein.

When we as a church become so focused on looking good, as opposed to being good and promoting justice and righteousness, we end up looking like the Pharisees. Or like Israel in the Old Testament that God destroyed because they eventually grew more wicked than Sodom and Gomorrah. God grew tired of their feasts, offerings songs, and other public displays of religion, and instead told them, “I hate, I despise your religious festivals; your assemblies are a stench to me. Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” (Amos Something).

Let us not become a people whom God comes to despise because we end up falling prey to culture wars that lead us to support immorality. Let us become a people that care about justice and righteousness, because God cares about those things. Let us be a people of true religion that is… “undefiled before God and the Father… [t]o visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”

And yeah, that means not supporting Sydney’s Sweeney’s thirst traps because you think doing so is opposing wokeness when really you’re just supporting sin.
