Have you ever been in the mood to just kill someone?

Same. Here are some webtoons that will probably make you seriously contemplate murder (in the webtoon – not in real life. We don’t condone killing on this blog).

Shelter by wufargia

One day you go for a walk on a chilly, overcast morning. You hit the four mile trail weaving through a heavily wooded park in your neighborhood. As you walk, you hear growling. A few meters behind you is a giant dog. You panic and walk faster because no one else is around. Thunder cracks and the heavens open, vomiting buckets of rain upon you. Ahead stands a hooded man holding something resembling a knife. You turn around, deciding to chance the dog, only to see the dog is in fact a giant mountain lion with the face of a bear, and actually the man is Pennywise. Your phone has 0% battery and explodes, giving you 3rd degree burns all over your arm, neck, and ears. Obviously freaked out, you flee into the woods in an attempt to get back to civilization, trip over a rock, and twist your ankle so badly you can’t walk.

All you can do is lay in the mud and wait for either Pennywise or the mountain lion demon to devour you alive.

That’s basically what reading Shelter feels like.

Ruka works for his uncle at a diner; an uncle who’s well-liked and takes Ruka and his mother in after his (maybe) father died. Except the uncle is actually a controlling, abusive in every single way, insane mofo and Ruka is his punching bag. On the bright side, Ruka has a best friend who cares for him, Pom, and he’s able to escape into a virtual reality world. On the down side, the virtual reality world also sucks and his uncle might actually be a demon. The art is beautiful probably to make up for the amount misery in this story, and despite being a rather lengthy webtoon, the plot manages to move along at a steady pace.

Flawed Almighty by Carnby Kim

Jeonji Kim is a bully who enjoys beating up people. He dies and goes to hell.

But wait there’s more!

He gets a second chance at life and is given an angel, Shiheon, who’s tasked with helping Jeonji complete various tasks aimed at improving the lives of others. You’d think dying would make Jeonji turn over a new leaf, but think again. Jeonji still enjoys beating people up, all the while completing various tasks from “God”. Every time you believe Jeonji is changing for the better, think again! He’s still a jerk, which is what makes this webtoon both fun and frustrating.

Flawed Almighty is by one of my favorite webtoon authors, Carnby Kim, so you know the art and plot are top-tier.

Lost In Translation by Jjolee

Have you ever wanted to know what goes on behind the scenes in the world of kpop idols? Well, this is not the webtoon for you. However, if you’ve ever wanted to contemplate the various ways you would kill the CEO of a k-entertainment agency this is the webtoon for you.

Lost In Translation follows the ups and downs of Korean pop boy group MAYHEM, centering around one of it’s members Wyld who is anything but. Wyld is subject to the whims, rumors, and abuses of his CEO all in the name of fame. He’s basically Tantalus reaching out for fruit (aka happiness) that eludes his grasp and things progressively get worst for him, showing that even when one hits rock bottom, they can always be buried six feet under.

Anyway, the art is quite unique, the story is overall well-paced, and it’s full of drama and interesting characters and twists even if the characters aren’t super well-developed and quite frankly the characters are generally way too wholesome to be realistic as a BTS of what idols go through. But it’s still fun.

Uriah by Toffuo

A child wakes up alone and on a deserted Island with the words murderer carved into his back. He has no memory of anything, not his name, not where he’s been, nada. Obviously he wants to get off said island, but his means of doing so involve either pedophilic predators who enjoy making snuff films of their own children, various criminals convicted of unknown crimes, or a woman and her friend who are also probably criminals.

Uriah shows the way cults operate and function to cover up the worst of sins and folks. While most of us will never encounter cults the likes of these, we’ve all probably heard of religious cults that prey on children and young women *cough ins the Duggars*, and have fallen into a deep rage.

Night Fishing by LICO, GOOD GUY

Baeksu Kang is an accomplished diver who accidentally kills his diving opponent during a competition via peanut allergy. Or did he?

Who knows.

What we do know is that Baeksu’s brother is soon murdered (not by peanuts thought) sending Baek-su on a quest to figure out what’s going on, or end up swimming with the fishes himself.

Things really only go downhill for Baeksu, so much so that you’ll spend a good amount of time wondering how things could possibly end well for him.

My Boo by Jeongseo

A young woman moves into an apartment that’s haunted by a ghost! Fortunately, the ghost is not only friendly but hot and around the same age as her, so you can pretty much guess where the story goes from there.

My Boo is heart-warming romance that will make you wish you had a ghost boyfriend. It’s also upsetting because one of them is already dead so there aren’t too many ways this story could end that would result in a happy ending. Nevertheless, it’s worth reading if you want to walk around feeling angsty and upset for a few days.
