All opinions are my own and my opinions are trash. That said, I do have actual criteria for a good female character:
- Their removal would affect the plot
- They undergo some change/character development, good or bad
- We see different sides of their personality
- They have a plot of their own that doesn’t revolve entirely around a male character. OR
- They are well-developed within the confines of the role they are written to play
- They don’t toss away every traditionally feminine trait in an attempt to be a strong, independent womyn
SPOILERS AHOY!
Demon Flight Attendant

- obviously a demon
- a flight attendant
- ramen
Demon Flight Attendant Rating: 4/10
The Blue Tiger

- idc if it’s male or female
- low key looks like the Cheshire cat
- belongs to Jinu
- is Jinu?
- is the bird?
- kinda creepy for a kid’s movie
- leads Rumi to Jinu?
The Cat’s Rating: Jinu Abandoning His Family For Fame During the Joseon Dynasty/10
Abby

Zoey

- space buns!
- the lead rapper
- a demon hunter
- has an awesome diary
- mildly unhinged vibes
- BURBANK
- the american one
- the cute one/maknae
- SODA POP POP!
- likes to throw knives
- does not like demons and therefore initially ditched Rumi when she got exposed
- COUCH and SNACKS
- would’ve had a half demon baby with Mystery
Zoey would probably be the most popular member of HUNTR/X since Koreans love barely legal female idols/female idols who look and act like children, and ifans love hyping up any vaguely foreign idol regardless of how talented they actually are.
Zoey Rating: 6.5/10
Mira

- the ice princess
- a demon hunter
- her ghost bullies Rumi on stage
- problem child
- highkey has a temper
- she was not amused to be shipped with the Saja bois
- DARTS
- the lead dancer
- the tall one
- does not like demons and therefore did not like Rumi when she got exposed
- COUCH and SNACKS
Mira would likely be the second most hated member of HUNTR/X for visibly looking annoyed in public and not pretending to be happy 24/7. Netz would also complain she isn’t talented/can’t sing because apparently dancing is not a talent unless you are a male idol.
Mira Rating: 6.5/10
Rumi

- the main vocal
- the leader
- stan attractor
- HALF demon but also a demon hunter so not like other demons who work for Gwi-Ma
- her mom slept with a demon and presumably gave birth to Rumi
- her mom was also a legendary demon hunter in a legendary demon hunter group of huntresses
- an alto
- JINU
- she did not repeat her mother’s mistake and get knocked up by him
- gets saved by him (he “dies”)
- wants to do the Honmoon because she thinks it will free her from her half-demon existence but the power of tru love convinces her otherwise (both her band mates and Jinu’s (probably))
- COUCH and SNACKs
Rumi would be the most hated member of HUNTR/X and also maybe the most popular (think Wonyoung or Blackpink’s Jennie). She’d be called a hoe for being caught out with Jinu (actually for just looking at him during their fan meeting) and for getting too many lines even though she’s objectively the best singer, if not the only member who can sing. Luckily, this is just a cute kid’s movie and not a critique of the Kpop idol industry, so Rumi is well-loved as she should be.
Rumi Rating: 8/10
Kpop Demon Hunters is clearly a kid’s movie, which is why it’s hilarious seeing people complain about it being cringe. Like yeah demons = bad, because that’s simple concept for children to grasp. Jinu sacrifices himself, because that’s a typical prince saving the damsel in distress deal that is the foundation of most Disney movies even if the prince is Elsa. The success of the Kpop Demon Hunters proves that people still enjoy basic, light-hearted movies as long as they’re well-executed.
On that note, there isn’t really much to say here other than to say the animation is good, the voice acting is good, the plot is well-paced, Golden is a banger, and I would maybe start listening to Korean boy groups again if they came out with something like Your Idol. Overall the movie accomplished what it set out to do and delivered some musical bangers to boot.
Kpop Demon Hunters Rating: 7/10
