Fellas, is it so became unbelievably WOKE to quote the Bible?
Apparently, (ex) Bethel worship leader Sean Feucht thinks so.
Shockingly, this isn’t an episode of Black Mirror. It’s yet another episode in Christian Idiocracy that brings to mind the Bible verse, “[e]ven a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.”
Somehow, Sean Feucht turned a Bible verse about treating foreigners kindly into a personal attack against… Biblical values? What’s the opposite of unbelievably WOKE? Stupid and uneducated? Hasn’t read the Bible in years?
Now, John Piper didn’t give his opinion at all here. He simply posted a Bible verse. This is unlike Feucht who read that verse and instantly made it about himself.
There is no illegal invasion in the USA and Proverbs mentions how much God despises a lying tongue (Proverbs 12:22). I’d bet my left thumb if asked to provide any evidence of this illegal invasion from a source that’s not Trump, Truth Social, or Fox, he’d have zero evidence.
Because even a passive online search reveals the majority of immigrants are in the USA legally and come to the USA legally.
There’s zero evidence that immigrants, illegal or not, commit more crimes than US citizens, which is a popular conservative talking point. The reason this is a popular conservative talking point is because conservative Christians can’t simply admit they’re racist.
Racism is antithetical to Christianity. The greatest commandment besides loving God is to love your neighbor as yourself. Consequently, conservative Christians have to create reasons to oppose immigration that don’t hinge on their personal feelings. Especially when their identity centers around the notion that they’re morally superior to progressive Christians, because they adhere to the Bible and progressive Christians do not.
But one does not have to try very hard to find credible research that indicates undocumented immigrants are less likely to commit crimes for fear of deportation.
For every Laken Riley killed by an immigrant, there are 100 Laken Rileys killed by US citizens. Yet, conservatives only rally around women who are murdered by men when they can be racist while doing so (see: the tragic murders of Iryna Zarutska and Laken Riley). I doubt those who were outraged over Riley’s tragic murder can name any of the 80,000+ women and girls who were also murdered in 2024 by men.
Far be it from MAGA to care about all the children Epstein assaulted either. Protecting children and women only matters if MAGA can somehow hate on drag queens and POC/immigrants while doing so. Meanwhile, the call is coming from inside the house!
And what constitutes an illegal invasion anyway? Where in the Bible does God call the United States of America a sovereign nation?
The entire Earth and everything on it belongs to the Lord. There are no illegal humans in the eyes of God. All humans are made in the image of God and humans have been migrating since God said, “let there be light.” Calling humans made in God’s image an illegal invasion in response to a Bible verse doesn’t sound very Christ-like.
Onto the verse, God is simply telling the Israelites how to treat strangers (or immigrants) coming in their land. “And if a stranger dwells with you in your land, you shall not mistreat him. The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.” Leviticus 19: 33-34. Which side note: Feucht’s reaction to this verse seems to indicate he’s never read Leviticus (?), which as a worship leader is WILD.
Anyway, much like Europeans (Germans) who came to America from Europe/Germany and are not native to the USA, the Israelites came to Egypt from the land of Canaan to escape the famine. Consequently, God is reminding them that as they were once people seeking a better life for themselves in Egypt, they are to treat those coming to their land in search of a better life with love and as natives.
This verse is phrased as a command. God isn’t asking the Israel if they’re cool with foreigners coming into their land. The Israelites were to treat foreigners among them as natives and with love.

It’s interesting how Christians will pick certain Bible verses to stand on, while completely ignoring others. Abortion isn’t explicitly mentioned in the Bible, yet that’s a nonnegotiable for many Christians even if we’re talking about a ten year old raped and impregnated by her father. Yet, somehow God saying, “treat immigrants kindly,” causes conservative Christians to go, “mmmm how about no.”
Here’s the thing. If you’re going to publicly espouse Christian values and be a worship leader, I expect you to read the Bible and believe in it as the ultimate authority that forms your worldview. Otherwise, don’t call yourself a Christian because you aren’t one. You’re like any other secular humanist that simply follows their heart.
Not just Sean Feucht, but many Christians have dug themselves into a crater sized hole by throwing all their support behind Trump. To be a Christian and to still be MAGA is to jump through Olympic sized hoops typically only found around Saturn.
But I suppose this is why Jesus said, “21 ‘[n]ot everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
You can walk, talk, and quack like a duck. But that doesn’t make you a duck.
Now, I’m not talking about people who simply voted for Trump or non-Christians who are MAGA. However. many Christians supported Trump under the idea that they were obeying Biblical values and standing on “Truth,” presumably Biblical truths, by doing so.
Homosexuality is morally wrong according to the Bible. Trump is anti-LGBTQ+. Thus they vote for Trump based off the idea that they are doing the morally correct thing and obeying the Bible.
Abortion is wrong. Trump is “pro-life” (lmaooo). Therefore, they vote for Trump under the assumption they’re doing the morally correct thing and obeying the Bible by voting pro-life. To be clear, these are not my views. I’m just trying to make a point, however incoherent here.
Consequently, arbitrarily deciding what to support and what to ignore based on who’s in office and not on the Bible makes you not really a Christian at all. You either believe in the entire Bible, or none of it. You cannot claim to have some moral high ground over progressive Christians because they’re pro-choice on the basis of the Bible while simultaneously ignoring everything else in the Bible that contradicts how you personally feel about an issue.
Case in point: when faced with scripture that contradicts his personal opinion on immigration, Sean Feucht chooses to simply dismiss the Bible as WOKE. This makes Feucht just as bad and misguided as the folks he probably criticizes for being too liberal or progressive.
Like the church loses their mind at the idea of a gay pastor, but a pedophile pastor? God forgives and uses imperfect people, am I right? Unless those imperfect people are gay. Then it’s:

Unfortunately, many Christians like Feucht simply cannot admit they made a mistake by supporting Trump. Consequently, they ignore the parts of the Bible that call them out over their hypocrisy.
They make up stories of illegal invasions and only rally around murdered women if they can use those women to to further hate on immigrants and liberals, and create fear.
It’s the same energy as saying that Charlie Kirk (RIP, homie) shouldn’t have been shot because no one deserves to be shot. Yet, Renee Good and Alex Pretti deserved to be shot simply because they’re… anti-ICE?
To be fair, Sean Feucht is the same guy who claimed his own lack of transparency regarding finances is a spiritual attack instead of just being more transparent with his finances.
Needless to say, Feucht doesn’t seem to be a particularly honest dude to begin with.
But his response highlights my issue with the American church overall. The church has strayed so far from the Bible that simply quoting scripture is (unbelievably) WOKE now.
These anti-woke Christians attack others all in the Name of Jesus while ignoring the very real suffering of those around them.
There are poor to be fed. Children without homes. Children being bombed, exploited, and trafficked. People facing economic uncertainty because of climate change, rising gas prices, and failing crops. People are being unlawfully detained because of their skin color.
Yet, those like Feucht would rather use their time and platforms to be offended at Bible. Ya know, the book that their faith is built upon?
The very same folks screaming “lock her up!” and “release the files!”. There folks who stormed the White House over the belief of a stolen election have almost nothing to say about the blatant corruption in the government now.
Because their version of Christianity is not based on Christ or even the Bible. It’s Christianity based on their on their own feelings much like the secular humanists who’s morality is based on their subjective opinions.
And it’s a sad thing to see how Christianity has become so reactive to the problem of today’s world, rather than proactive in solving those problems.
Anyway, the Bible should make us uncomfortable. Particularly when it points out the ways in which our hearts are not in line with scripture.
2 Timothy 1: 16-17 says, “[a]ll Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work,” and, “[f]or the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
One would hope that as we read the Bible and encounter verses that make us question our own beliefs in a way we don’t agree with, we would allow the Word of God to correct us, instead of reacting in the flesh.
This is why it’s important to read your Bible. For starters, you will not be shocked to discover the existence of verses like Leviticus 19:34.
Second, you will be less likely to join a cult. Knowing what the Bible actually says allows you to avoid falling prey to those who use the Name of Jesus to promote their own agendas.
The Bible provides us with a rubric for Christian character and it’s important that we as Christians believe in it as the ultimate authority and allow it to correct us even when we disagree with it.
Obviously nobody is perfect except for Jesus. However, there’s also a thing called not sharing every stupid opinion you have online. Like just be racist around your friends like your ancestors were, Feucht.
Anyway, to end this long-winded mess nobody will read with a verse that feels relevant:
Amos 5:22- 24.
“I hate, I despise your feasts,
and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies.
22 Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings,
I will not accept them;
and the peace offerings of your fattened animals,
I will not look upon them.
23 Take away from me the noise of your songs;
to the melody of your harps I will not listen.
24 But let justice roll down like waters,
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”
