Also known as doing the bare minimum is Jesus name.
Amen.
Every so often (all the time) my Instagram home page recommends something where I’m so wildly not the target audience for, I wonder what I accidentally glanced at that Instagram thought this would be something I would enjoy. Sometimes it’s nonsensical enough to inspire me to blog about it. Case in point, my bro kiingmax.
I’ve no idea how old homie is, but I’m guessing he’s pretty young to have posted this with any seriousness. His account generally is positive (I guess) which is what’s actually not like his generation because most conservative gymbros posting content about relationships seems to be pretty negative and depressing. Like not a good space for any man to be dwelling in. This dude apparently wants to make families a thing again which does he live in Antarctica? Where is he at that no one is getting married and having kids at all? But I digress. It’s a wholesome goal even if most of his advice boils down to “be a decent human being.”

In any case, while I agree this isn’t typical conduct of current gen z (or millennials, or let’s be real anyone at any point in history if you know anything about history), this is still the standard conduct for anyone professing to be a Christian, perhaps even lower.
The Bible instructs us not to have sex until marriage (not just on the first date) seen in the multiple scriptures where God labels fornication (sex outside of marriage) a sin. Yes, this includes watching pornography. In fact the word Porneia is a Greek word that means “illicit sexual activity” and is where we get the word porn from. Jesus said watching porn was just as bad as having sex, so don’t be deceived here in thinking that porn is harmless, or not as sinful. It’s all sin in God’s eyes. People love throwing stones at women who do Only Fans and whatnot, but I rarely see this vitriol directed towards the people who consume this content even though it’s all the same to God. Furthermore, the reason for abstaining has nothing to do with your spouse, but with honoring God.
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 ESV, “Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were .”
Obviously, this doesn’t apply to non-Christians but if one is claiming to be a Christian, this is the standard.
Furthermore the Bible says nothing about dating . That said, Proverbs says (NIV) “desire without knowledge is not good— how much more will hasty feet miss the way!” So if one’s goal is to marry, one should indeed not date casually. Common sense, nothing unusual here.
The rest of this post is hardly worth mentioning. Listening to worship music aka worshipping God is again the bare minimum. There’s nothing wrong with going to a pub for a drink either; preferring to plays Apples to Apple and Uno at home doesn’t make you morally better than anyone else. Jesus drunk wine. At weddings. He turned water into wine just so folks could get lit. Jesus enjoys having a good time. Drunkenness is indeed a sin and if one has a trouble with that, surely it’s wise to not regularly go to pubs but spending quality time with your friends is not a waste of time. Whether it’s at a pub, your house, going on a hike, enjoying a game night, or whatever.
Lastly, God should always be our number one focus and the center of everything. This is again the bare minimum for Christians. This is not exceeding the conduct for a Christian man, this is meeting the bare minimum which is fine. Again, homie seems young; he has time to grow into the man God wants him to be and distance himself from Christian thirst trap pick-me posts like these.
That said, Christian men (and women) should raise the bar. We serve a God who can do exceedingly above and beyond all we can ever imagine. Keeping God as the center is good, but how about having a true, close intimate walk with God?How about waiting until marriage to have sex, because you love God? How about listening to worship music as a way to draw yourself, and your heart, closer to God?
Anyway, as always I entreat those unfortunate enough to stumble upon my blog to read their Bibles and ignore thirst traps like this. Be encouraged with the Word, not Instagram Influencers. Let it uplift you and teach you how to not be like this generation, but to be like Christ.
